Hillary Clinton was the big winner in a series of mock presidential elections held in district schools in October and November.
Among the students in grades K-8, Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine garnered 3,368 votes, while their Republican opponents, Donald Trump and Mike Pence, received 500 votes, according to information supplied by the school district.
The Libertarian Party’s candidates, Gary Johnson and William Weld, received 149 votes and Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka received 161 votes.
Students in Franklin Middle School held their mock election Oct. 18, with the assistance of NJMockElection.com. Following are the results for that school:
- Democratic Party: Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine 590 votes
- Republican Party: Donald Trump and Mike Pence 104 votes
- Libertarian Party: Gary Johnson and William Weld 28 votes
- Green Party: Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka 22 votes
Students in grades K-6 registered with the Studies Weekly, Every Kid Votes program. Their mock election was held Nov. 1, and here are the results for all those schools:
- Clinton – 2,778 votes
- Trump – 396 votes
- Stein – 139 votes
- Johnson – 121 votes
Franklin High School students, led by the school’s Junior States of America club, ran a voter registration drive for those students eligible to vote. The club, under the guidance of their advisor, Craig Lewis, also delivered a series of “teach-ins” in social studies classes during the week of Oct. 18. A paper ballot mock election was held during the week of Oct. 24.
A total of 1,375 votes were cast, with Clinton winning 67 percent of the votes, Trump winning 13 percent of the votes, Johnson winning 11 percent of the votes and Stein winning 7 percent of the vote.
