Patriots Top Revolution 10-8

614snyderhrBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (29-22) defeated the York Revolution (29-22) 10-8 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

York took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Alfredo Marte (4)

The Patriots gained the lead with a four-run third inning. Aharon Eggleston got Somerset on the board on an RBI single and scored to break the tie on an RBI double by Eric Farris. Brad Snyder followed by crushing a two-run home run (7) to extend the lead to 4-1.

“I got ahead in the count and was looking for something out over the plate. I got what I was looking for and put a good swing on it. I hit the ball hard and good things tend to happen when you hit the ball hard,” Snyder said.

Somerset extended the lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mycal Jones for a 5-1 advantage.

York cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Andres Perez and Bryan Pounds.

Matt Fields’ run scoring double down the left field line in the sixth inning made it a 6-3 game.

“We’re just grinding out at bats to make it a tough battle each time. It doesn’t mean that we are getting hits all the time, but we are working the count, working the pitcher to get to the bullpen early and that’s what we’ve been doing the last few series,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.

Pounds drove in another run on a single in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 6-4.

Fields struck again in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run single to finish with three RBI for the game. Yovan Gonzalez followed with an RBI infield base hit and another run came home on an error for a10-4 lead.

“I’m just trying to get a good pitch to hit, take a nice easy swing on it and try not to do too much. A lot lately, that’s what I’ve been trying to work on and it’s starting to come together,” said Fields.

The Revolution scored two more runs in the eighth inning on RBI singles by Joel Guzman and Perez. Another two runs were plated in the ninth inning on an RBI double by Josh Wilson and an RBI single by Jason Repko for the 10-8 final.

Patriots starting pitcher Darin Gorski (4-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings pitched. Kelvin De La Cruz (3-6) took the loss, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
