Ducks Edge Patriots 4-3
Bridgewater, NJ – The Long Island Ducks (1-1, 47-24) defeated the Somerset Patriots (1-1, 51-21) 4-3 Saturday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
In the top of the first inning pitcher Mickey Storey hurled a wild pitch that scored right fielder Bryan Sabatella as the Ducks took a 1-0 lead.
Second baseman Nate Spears fisted a RBI single to even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
Long Island grabbed a 4-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning as second baseman Reegie Corona cranked a home run (2) and third baseman Cody Puckett pounded a two run home run (5).
The Patriots cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning as center fielder Vinny Zarrillo slapped a RBI single.
Right fielder Michael Burgess socked a RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 4-3 which would be the final score.
Bobby Blevins earned the win (1-0) tossing six innings while allowing two runs. Storey suffered the loss (4-1) hurling six innings while surrendering four runs. Ryan Kussmaul notched the save (21) pitching the final frame.
