After a four-year, Covid-inspired pause, the once-again annual Franklin High School alumni basketball game was held November 27.
Once again organized by Kyle Pitts, the event featured a $2,000 contribution to the Franklin High School film and television department.
Pitts said the donation came from alumni contributions.
“That money comes from alumni donating their coins to the school,” he said.
The game, he said, is all about reconnecting.
“We wanted to give people a platform to come in, see a basketball game, have a good time and hopefully see some old faces that they haven’t seen in a while,” he said.
“We haven’t had this since 2019 because of Covid,” he said. “It feels like we’re starting from scratch this year.”
Pitts said he has a direct connection to the high school’s television program and its head, Mike Pinnix.
“I teach a youth financial literacy program there,” he said. “These are kids who want to establish a business, become entrepreneurs, in the TV and film space.”
“I talk to them about the pros and cons about starting a business,” Pitts said. “We talk about personal finances as well as corporate finances.”
Students in the class took the lead on the game preparation, Pitts said.
“They actually run the game,” he said. “They create a flyer, a promo video and put them on their social media pages. Whoever gets the most views gets a prize.”
“This is more than a basketball game,” he said.
The evening also featured a short performance by R&B singer Bobby Valentino.
