The historic Wyckoff-Garretson Wagon and Barn House on South Middlebush Road will get a $53,000 fix-up, thanks to a grant recently received by the Meadows Foundation.

The $53,380 grant is from the Somerset County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund. The Meadows Foundation’s grant was one of six totaling $895,000 awarded by the trust fund earlier this month.

Work on the structure paid for by the grant will include “new floors, walls and ceiling installation as necessary; wood shingles for the exterior wall; insulation; installation of new doors; and painting, electrical and HVAC,” according to a press release about the grant. ” Work on the house will include a door at bottom of the outside stairs, as well as electric work in the basement and second floor,” according to the release.

The Wyckoff Garretson House was constructed in 1730 and is considered a prime example of Dutch-American settlement in Somerset County, according to the release. It was built by John Wyckoff.
