Update: An encore performance of the show has been set for 7 p.m., Oct. 24 at Franklin High School. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

An original musical written by a township resident will have its debut Sept. 19 at Franklin High School on Elizabeth Avenue.

The show, “Where Is Jonah Now?” is written by Lareatha Payne and is directed by Tim Walton, of the high school’s performing arts department.

Payne wrote the musical based on a song she also wrote, called “From the Eyes of an Angel.”

The musical deals with several contemporary issues, including racism, modern day family dynamics and love.

Cast members include Frankie Fernandez, Sherri S. Richardson, Mother Mitzi Soaries, Zemora Brooks, Stephanie Weiss, Francine Charles, Tameka Garrett, Jessie Brown and W. McLeod. The play also features actors from the high school and Franklin Middle School.

The production is produced by Terri Seggio, drama director at Sampson G. Smith School, with production manager Gail Prescott and production assistant Valerie Leake.

A major portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Franklin Arts Council Children’s Theatre Program and the Franklin High School Music Department. Girl Scout Troop 66339 will be on-site opening night to sell snacks, which will help toward trip expenses to Europe early in 2016.

Curtain time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students younger than 18. VIP tickets, which include a reception from 5:45-6:45 p.m., are $50.
