‘Week of the People’ Celebrates Franklin’s Multi-Level Diversity

Kids’ activities were on the agenda at the 47th annual Week of the People celebration on Aug. 25.

The 47th annual Week of the People celebration was held Aug. 25 at Naaman Williams Park.

As it has for the past several years, the one-day festival featured award presentations, games, kids’ activities, vendors and entertainment.

The celebration was founded in 1971 “as a means to bring together the Franklin Township community, businesses, community organizations and the overall community” for what was first a week-long celebration “of cultures, faiths, education, art and health, creating an atmosphere of our theme, ‘Community in Unity’,” according to the event flier.

Backpacks to area school children were also given out during the day.

Entertainment for the day featured Exodus 4:12 from Piscataway, township resident Lil Asmar, Newark residents the Brooks Sisters and Young Bosses, UTU Dance Group from Philadelphia, Pa., Modern Demand from Trenton, Baltimore Dream Team from Baltimore, Md. and Body in Motion from New Brunswick.

Following are some scenes from the day:
