WaWa Eyed For Former Guaranteed Motors Site

2-23-154

The former Guaranteed Motors site at Route 27 and Juliette Avenue is being eyed for a WaWa gas station and convenience store.

Plans for a WaWa gas station and convenience store – which could provide up to 35 jobs – were presented to the township Redevelopment Agency at its Feb. 23 meeting.

The targeted site is the former home of Guaranteed Motors at Route 27 and Juliet Avenue. If approved, it would be the first WaWa in the township.

Agency commissioners reacted positively to the proposed plans for the 1.7-acre site. After the presentation, they directed their attorney, Everett M. Johnson, to draw up paperwork to start the process.

The plan, by Franklin Juliet LLC, is to create a site with six gasoline pumps – for 12 filling stations – and a store.

One of the LLC’s partners, Richard Dreyer, also developed the Rite-Aid, Dunkin’ Dounts and New Millennium Bank project at Elizabeth Avenue and School House Road, the developer’s attorney, Peter Lanfrit, told the commissioners.

The WaWa would be of the chain’s newer designs, which is “fairly attractive,” Lanfrit said.

The existing building would be demolished, he said.

Dreyer said he is contracted to build 12 other WaWas throughout the state.

Deputy Mayor Kimberly Francois expressed a little skepticism about the project, saying she “never envisioned a gas station at that site.”

Mark Healy, the township’s principal planner, said that the developer “has a lot of room to work with” to make the project attractive.

“He has enough space to do a pretty good presentation along the street,” Healy said.

The commissioners directed Johnson to draw up a resolution designating Franklin Juliet LLC as the redevelopers for the project, and an amendment to the township’s redevelopment plan that will allow a gas station on the site.
