Vivian Petteway, 82, Volunteer, Township Bookkeeper

Ms. Vivian Petteway passed away Oct. 23 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville at the age of 82.

Ms. Petteway was born in Gates County, NC and was raised in Harlem and Waterbury, CT. She lived in South Bound Brook, before moving to Franklin Township in 1987.

Vivian was a member of the First Baptist church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. Ms. Petteway enjoyed cooking and entertaining her friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved to listen to jazz music. She volunteered her time at the Sisters Network for Breast Cancer Awareness in Somerset. She also helped with computer literacy at the Franklin Township Senior Citizen Center and served meals at the Quailbrook Nutritional Center in Somerset.

She was employed by Franklin Township for many years as a bookkeeper.

Ms. Petteway was pre-deceased by her brother Maurice Rooks.

She is survived by her sister, Olivia Silva of Waterbury, CT; her children, Hughes Petteway and his wife Yolanda of Gardena, CA, Jocelyn Petteway of Orlando, FL, Jeffrey Petteway and his wife Marpessa of Newark, DE and Jason Petteway of Somerset. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dana, Justin, Marcus, Malcolm, Hannibal and Diop and great grandchildren Laila, Sophia and Noah.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, October 29, from 9-10 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street. A funeral ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
