Vigil For Victims Of Tree Of Life Synagogue Shooting Set For Oct. 28

A vigil for the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Masjid-e-Ali Mosque, 47 Cedar Grove Lane.

On Oct. 27, a gunman opened fire in the synagogue, killing 11 and injuring six others in what has been called the deadliest attacks on Jews in the United States.

The Franklin Township Interfaith Coalition has joined with the NJ Interfaith Coalition in issuing the following statement:

“Members of the NJ Interfaith Coalition comprised of more than 150 organizations throughout New Jersey, are heartbroken at the horrendous shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We mourn the loss of 11 innocent lives and pray for speedy recovery of those injured in this hate-filled Anti-Semitic attack.

“We commend the quick response by law enforcement and pray for a speedy recovery of the officers who were injured.

“We stand in solidarity with the Tree of Life congregation and with the Jewish people. We urge all faith and civic leaders to unite and speak out against Anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry. We also urge everyone to tone down the divisive rhetoric that has become so widespread in social media.

“We invite all mosques, churches, synagogues and other faith-based organizations to join us and work together for a world free of hate and bigotry by supporting the following pledge to stand up for the other: While interacting with members of my own faith, or ethnic, or gender community, or with others, if I hear hateful comments from anyone about members of any other community, I pledge to stand up for the other and speak up to challenge bigotry in any form.

“The list of organizations supporting this statement is available upon request and can be accessed at www.NJIFC.org. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any of the following contacts.
