Two Somerset Men Nabbed in $80,000 Pennsylvania Holdup

A Somerset man remains in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, on a money laundering charge in connection with a Pennsylvania robbery.

Adrian Herrera, 24, was arrested at about 11 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Bridgewater-Somerset Hotel, Davidson Avenue, by State Police detectives.

Herrera is allegedly one of a gang of four men – and the second arrested from Somerset – who police say held up a cigarette distribution facility in Bristol Township, Pa. on Oct. 12, said State Police spokesman Sgt. Adam Grossman.

According to reports published in PhillyBurbs.com (here and here), the gang used semi-automatic handguns and a shotgun to rob the facility of about $80,000.

According to the reports, the men, dressed in dark pants, dark shirts, gloves and masks, were seen on surveillance video approaching two employees of Levittown Distributors and pointing their weapons at them.

One of the men was seen in the video holding an employee at gunpoint while the others entered the building and later emerged holding a cash box, according to the reports.

The reports said that the men were chased in their car to nearby Falls Township, Pa., where they abandoned their car after getting snarled in traffic.

The men were followed by car by a witness, who pointed them out to police in the traffic jam, the reports said. They fled the car, but three of them were later arrested after being found by a K-9 Unit from the Lower Makefield Police Department, according to the reports. Among those arrested was Joel Torres, 23, also of Somerset, according to the reports.

The reports said that Herrera ran away from the scene barefoot and may have been seen asking people for a ride.

Police found two handguns and the shotgun in the car, and a box containing money stolen from the facility lying on the road, according to the reports.

Herrera was found with $20,400 when he was arrested, Grossman said.

Herrera was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants from Middlesex County, Grossman said. He is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania, he said.
