Two Franklin Women Among Nine Named ‘Outstanding Women In Somerset County’

The township’s municipal prosecutor and a long-time educator are among the nine women chosen as the 2019 Outstanding Women in Somerset County by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women.

Bernice Jalloh, an attorney who is currently the township prosecutor, will be honored in the Journalism/Media/Law category, and Wanda Brooks-Long, CEO of an educational services company and former long-time school principal in Newark, will be honored in the Education category.

An awards dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 29 at The Imperia, 1714 Easton Ave.

Outstanding Women awards will also be given in the categories of Arts/Entertainment/Sports, Business/Entrepreneurship/Information Technology, Environmental Initiatives, Government/Public/Social Service, Hometown Hero, Medicine/Health Services and Volunteerism, according to a press release on the awards.

“I’m proud that we have so many accomplished women in Somerset County,” Somerset County Freeholder Deputy Director Patricia L. Walsh, the commission liaison, said in the release. “It’s wonderful that we can recognize these women and their accomplishments publicly – and being able to honor them during Women’s History Month makes the event even more significant.”

Tickets are $60 each; reservations must be made by March 1. No reservations will be taken at the door.
