Township Woman Suffers Potential Life-Threatening Injuries In Auto Accident

A 74-year-old township woman suffered possible life-threatening injuries and two other people were injured in a March 9 auto accident at the intersection of Arden Street and Girard Avenue.

Police said Priscilla Roberson, 74, of Somerset, had to be “heavily extracted” from her 1993 Volvo after the early afternoon accident, which, police said, was apparently caused when Roberson drove through a stop sign on Arden and into the intersection.

Roberson’s car collided with a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Leidy Ventura-Marte, 34 of Somerset, according to police.

Roberson was taken to an area hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, police said. Ventura-Marte and a 17-year-old passenger in her car were also taken to a hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A second passenger in Ventura-Marte’s car, a 33-year-old Somerset man, was not injured, police said.

Members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Officer Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate the incident, police said.  The road was shut down for approximately four hours during the investigation and subsequent cleanup.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Ptl. James Raics of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau at (732) 873-5533 extension 3177.
