An 81-year-old township woman was killed May 28 after she was struck by a car while crossing a road, police said.

Police said Ernestine Register, 81, of Franklin Park was struck by a car driven by Kylie Fisher, also of Franklin Park, while Register was crossing Ten Mile Run Boulevard.

Responding to multiple 9-1-1 calls, police aided Register until EMS personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Kendall Park First Aid Squad arrived, according to a press release from the Franklin Township Police Department.

Register was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.

Fisher, 19, told police that she turned onto Ten Mile Run Blvd. from Timberhill Drive when she struck Register.

The incident is being investigated by members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team.
