Township Students Named To College Deans’ Lists, Athletic Teams

Victoria Seamon of Somerset has been named to Alvernia University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester. Seamon studied Occupational Therapy at Alvernia and is a graduate of Franklin High School. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better and take a minimum of 12 credits. Alvernia is a Franciscan university, grounded in the Catholic and liberal arts traditions, that combines academic opportunities with personal attention and a commitment to community service.

Cristina Canestri of Franklin Park earned Dean’s List honors at Saint Joseph’s University for the Fall 2016 semester. Canestri studies Biology in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above, a B or greater in all their classes, and complete at least 15 credits to earn dean’s list status for a semester. As Philadelphia’s Jesuit, Catholic University, founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851, Saint Joseph’s University provides a rigorous, student-centered education rooted in the liberal arts.

The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Colleen Kurtz, of Somerset, has earned a spot on the 2016-17 Assumption College Women’s Swimming and Diving team. Kurtz, Class of 2020, is competing during the Greyhounds’ season. The Greyhounds have placed either first or second in every swim meet this season, including second at the WPI Gompei Invitational. The Hounds look forward to clinching their fourth consecutive Northeast-10 Confrence Championship title.

Assumption College has announced that Colleen Kurtz, a member of the Class of 2020 from Somerset, is one of 486 students named to the College’s undergraduate Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester. To earn a spot on the Dean’s List, Assumption students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for a five-class, 15-credit semester. The Dean’s List is announced twice per academic year, once at the completion of the fall semester, and again at the completion of the spring semester. Founded in 1904 by the Augustinians of the Assumption in Worcester, Mass., Assumption College offers 43 majors and 48 minors in the liberal arts, sciences, business, and professional studies, through an educational experience grounded in the rich Catholic intellectual tradition coupled with professional programs.

Andrea Circelli of Somerset  was named to the Wilkes University Dean’s List.  To be named to the Dean’s List, students must obtain a minimum 3.4 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits. Wilkes University is an independent institution of higher education dedicated to academic and intellectual excellence through mentoring in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs.

Brittany Georges and Navya Jagarlamudi of Somerset have been named to the University of Delaware’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester. To meet eligibility requirements for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a GPA of 3.33 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.

Michael Diana of Somerset, a freshman psychology major in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Christa Howarth of Somerset, a senior theology and religious studies major in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences have been named to the University of Scranton’s Dean’s List for the 2016 fall semester. The Dean’s List recognizes students for academic excellence. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours during the fall semester to make the Dean’s List. The University of Scranton is a Jesuit university located in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Yati Patel of Somerset was one of 36 students from University of the Sciences’ physician assistant studies program to join the ranks of professionals following the third annual White Coat Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. The ceremony for the class of 2018 commemorated the formal presentation of a white coat for physician assistant students as they begin working clinically with patients in hospitals and outpatient settings. At the ceremony, the students recited the oath of a physician assistant, a gesture to reinforce their commitment to working with patients compassionately and to enhancing their health and well-being. Patel continues on the path to a master of science in physician assistant studies.
