Township Man Charged With Receiving Stolen Trailer Generator Worth $140,000

A 43-year-old township man was charged Aug. 15 with receiving stolen property after he was allegedly seen with a stolen commercial trailer generator valued at more than $140,000.

Aaron Taylor-Fajardo of Hunt Road was charged with 3rd Degree Receiving Stolen Property after he was spotted by police with the generator in the Somerset Village parking lot on Easton Avenue.

Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force members and officers from the township Police Department were talking to Taylor-Fajardo in the lot for an unspecified reason when they saw a large commercial trailer generator that had been freshly spray-painted black to conceal identifying serial numbers and signifiers, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

There was also no indication of why the county detectives and township police were in the lot.

Detectives smelled the odor of fresh spray paint and saw that Taylor-Fajardo had black spray paint on his hands and fingernails, according to the release. Several empty black spray paint bottles were found nearby, according to the release.

Further investigation revealed that the trailer generator was reported stolen out of Paterson, according to the release. The generator was valued at $141,000, the release said.

Taylor-Fajardo was placed under arrest and released on his own recognizance pending his appearance in state Superior Court, Somerville, according to the release.
