Temporary Closing Of New Brunswick Road Possible With Al’s Brook Bridge Replacement

NB Rd bridge1

The Township Council has endorsed a plan to fix the Al’s Brook bridge on New Brunswick Road that would entail partial closing of the road.

A plan that would temporarily close New Brunswick Road to replace an aging bridge was endorsed March 10 by the Township Council.

The council voted to push the “preliminary preferred plan” to replace the Al’s Brook bridge, which carries New Brunswick Road close to the Cedar Grove Lane intersection.

The bridge, which was built around 1979, needs a replacement of its superstructure. The current double-barreled plate arches would be replaced with a single-barrel precast concrete arch, according to the resolution.

A public information session was held in May 2014 to gauge residents and business owners’ opinions on how the bridge should be repaired.

Business owners in the vicinity of the bridge are concerned about a road closure affecting their business.
