‘Suicidal’ Somerville Man Taken From Township Motel

A 26-year-old Somerville man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was found unresponsive in a township motel room by the Somerset County SWAT team.

The man, Ian Bockus, was found in the room on Aug. 18 with self-inflicted knife wounds on his left wrist, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the release, township dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at about 8:28 p.m. from Bockus, who was described in the release as being suicidal, and had barricaded himself in the room.

The responding officers began talking to Bockus, according to the release, and learned that Bockus had a knife and a gun and said that he was not leaving the room.

Somerset County SWAT and Hostage/Crisis Negotiator Teams were brought in and tried, unsuccessfully, to get Bockus to leave the room, according to the release.

After “numerous” attempts to get him to leave were unsuccessful, the room was entered by force, according to the release. It was then that Bockus, described as being heavily intoxicated, was found unresponsive with the knife cuts on his wrist.

Bockus was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the release, where the outstanding warrant out of Somerville was discovered.
