Spring Has Sprung In The Township

Children and adults enjoyed the Springish weather April 8 at the Bunny Jamboree in the municipal complex.

After days of rain, the skies finally cleared April 8, allowing for the sightings of some sure signs of Spring.

The annual Bunny Jamboree, sponsored by the township department of Parks and Recreation, and the kickoff of the spring season for the Franklin Township Soccer Club were highlights of the windy, chilly day.

The Franklin Township Little League was scheduled to hold its annual parade from Pine Grove Manor School to the little league complex, representing the start of the league’s season, but the poor condition of the playing fields after the torrential rains forced organizers to postpone it.

The Bunny Jamboree was held in the municipal complex and featured games, food, an Easter egg hunt, crafts and pictures with “Mr. and Mrs. Bunny.” Volunteers from the Franklin Township Youth Council were once again on hand to run the games for the children.

Recreation director Alice Osipowitz pronounced herself happy with the day’s turnout.

The FTSC’s season began on soccer fields throughout the township.

The season runs through June 17, with Saturdays off for the Easter and Memorial Day weekends.

The program for children aged 6 to 14 has 540 players registered, while 67 Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten players are signed up.

The club’s new high school program has 41 players, and there is still time to register, said Michele Peterson, a recreational division board member.

The club’s Top Soccer program for special needs students has 20 players with 51 “buddies” signed up to help them.
