Somerset Man Killed in North Brunswick Accident, Charges Filed

New Brunswick man faces three charges

A New Brunswick man faces three charges – including vehicular homicide – following his alleged involvement in a Sept. 28 accident that killed a 22-year-old Somerset man.

Police said Shareef Holder, 27, was also charged with aggravated manslaughter and eluding police.

Holder was allegedly fleeing police in his car on Jersey Avenue when he crashed into a car near Huron Road in North Brunswick driven by Luis Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said Holder earlier that evening was involved in a crash on Route 27 in New Brunswick. Holder drove away from that scene, police said, but was later spotted by a New Brunswick officer and stopped on Jersey Avenue.

Police said that while the officer was checking Holder’s credentials, the man sped away.

After hitting Rodriguez’ car, police said, Holder’s car hit a pickup truck and another car. No one in the other autos was injured, police said.

Holder is being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $1 million bail.

Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call Investigator Scott Crocco or Investigator Greg Morris, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, at (732) 745-3300.
