Somerset Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A township man remains in the Somerset County Jail after being charged Sept. 3 with the attempted murder of a woman in her apartment.

Ahmed Taylor-Kamara, 26, of Arlington Avenue, was charged with 1st Degree Attempted Murder and 3rd Degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bail for Taylor-Kamara was set at $250,000, cash only.

Police responded to a disturbance call at the victim’s Ari Drive apartment at about 8:30 a.m. Sept. 3, according to the release. Police knocked on the door, and when a man later identified as Taylor-Kamara opened it, the officers saw the woman inside, bleeding from multiple cuts.

The woman told police that Taylor-Kamara, who she said she knew, knocked on her door earlier and asked for some water for his car, which he said had overheated.

The victim gave him the water and he left, but soon returned, asking for more water.

The woman said that as she walked back to her kitchen for the water, Taylor-Kamara attacked her with a 6-inch knife.

The victim told police Taylor-Kamara said he was going to kill her, according to the release.

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the attack, according to the release.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Responding to the incident were township police, detectives assigned to the Prosecutor’ Office Major Crimes Squad and the prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigation and Forensics Unit, according to the release.
