Somerset Dominates Lancaster In 8-1 Win

Lancaster, Penn. – The Somerset Patriots (29-20) utilized a strong pitching performance and an offensive outburst into a convincing 8-1 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers (31-17) Wednesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Patriots jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. A Craig Massey RBI single and a run-scoring double play groundout from Yovan Gonzalez highlighted the inning. Lancaster responded with a K.C. Hobson sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to trim the deficit in half. 

Somerset later increased their lead to 5-1 with a two-run single from Aaron Dudley in the third inning and an RBI single from Endy Chavez in the fourth. Two more runs came home for the Patriots in the fifth on a Mike Fransoso RBI double and a Julio Borbon RBI fielder’s choice to provide a 7-1 advantage.

The Patriots topped off the scoring on a Borbon sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.

Every Patriots batter in the lineup recorded a hit, while six different batters had a multi-hit game Chavez, Alfredo Rodriguez, Massey, Dudley, Kyle Roller and Justin Pacchioli). Additionally, eight of the nine batters in the lineup recorded a run.

David Kubiak (3-0) earned the win after he allowed just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts over 7.1 innings pitched. Tommy Shirley (3-2) yielded seven runs on 13 hits and two walks over 4.1 innings of work to take the loss.
