Somerset County Seeks Hunting Rights Bids For Trap Rock Property

Somerset County is looking for bids for hunting rights on four parcels it owns, including one in the township.

The Franklin parcel consists of 149 acres and is known as the Stavola/Trap Rock parcel, which is bordered by Route 518, Canal and Old Georgetown roads.

Somerset County bought most of the property in 2014 for about $5 million.

The lease is open to hunting groups; the winning bidder/group will have to furnish a roster of its members to the Somerset County Park Commission.

Minimum bid on the hunting rights is $5,500 a year. The contract will run five years, starting Sept. 1, 2018 and running through Aug. 31, 2023, according to the bid document.

Bids are due to the county by June 7, which is when they will be opened.

The other three parcels are in Branchburg and Montgomery.
