Somerset Caps Off Season With 19-Hit Victory

Bridgeport, CT- The Somerset Patriots (32-37, 74-65) set a new season-high with 19 hits in a win over the Bridgeport Bluefish (36-34, 77-63) on the final day of the 2017 regular season.

Bridgeport opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with a solo home run from second basemen Jose Cuevas (7).
Somerset responded in the top of the fourth inning with three base hits, including a Joe Maloney RBI single to tie the ballgame. The hit would be the first of Maloney’s tenure with the Patriots.
The Patriots’ bats came alive in a big way in the top of the sixth, plating four runs on five hits to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Kyle Roller forced a run home when he reached on an error, while Mark Minicozzi and D’Vontrey Richardson hit RBI singles. Yovan Gonzalez capped off the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Somerset added a four-spot again in the ninth with an RBI double from Olmo Rosario and RBI singles from Kyle Roller and D’Vontrey Richardson.
Bridgeport scored one more in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Galvez, but Somerset would hold on for a 9-2 win.
Patrick Johnson (2-2) gives up one run over five innings to pick up the win. Ross Seaton (2-4) was responsible for the four-run sixth inning, taking the loss.
Somerset takes a few days off before the start of the 2017 post-season. The Patriots travel to Long Island to take on the Ducks for Game One of the Best-of-Five Series on Wednesday at Bethpage Ballpark.
