Skeeters Swarm Patriots 8-2

Bridgewater, NJ – The Sugar Land Skeeters (19-13, 57-44) won the rubber match against the Somerset Patriots (20-13, 67-36) by a final score of 8-2 Monday afternoon from TD Bank Ballpark.

In the bottom of the second inning shortstop Dominic Ramos committed a throwing error that led to a run as Somerset jumped in front 1-0.

The Skeeters took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as first baseman Nick Stavinoha and Ramos each sliced RBI singles to make the score 2-1.

Center fielder Brian Barton smacked a home run (5) in the top of the fifth inning to increase the Skeeters lead to 3-1.

The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth frame as third baseman Corey Smith blooped a RBI single making the score 3-2.

Sugar plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to up their advantage to 5-2. Second baseman Michael Rockett tallied a RBI sacrifice fly and another run crossed via a throwing error by shortstop Scott Kelly.

In the top of the ninth inning the Skeeters scored three times to increase their lead at 8-2. Left fielder Ryan Langerhans poked a RBI single while third baseman Chase Lambin pounded a two RBI single.

David Pauley (9-6) earned the win tossing five innings while allowing two runs. Matt Zielinski (8-6) sustained the loss hurling six frames while surrendering five runs.
