Skeeters Defeat Patriots 7-1

maaay06FINALSugar Land, TX – The Sugar Land Skeeters (8-5) defeated the Somerset Patriots (6-5) 7-1 Wednesday afternoon from Constellation Field.

 

In the bottom of the second inning Sugar Land scored a run without the benefit of a hit to take an early 1-0 advantage. Third baseman Patrick Palmeiro bounced into a double play that plated a run.

 

Left fielder Dustin Martin slapped a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to expand Sugar Land’s lead to 2-0.

 

The Skeeters added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Palmeiro ripped a RBI single increasing the lead to 3-0.

 

Sugar Land exploded for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab a commanding 7-0 lead. Third baseman Scott Kelly committed a fielding error that led to a run, pitcher T.J. Chism committed a throwing error that led to two runs, and Chism hurled a wild pitch that scored an additional run.

 

The Patriots got on the scoreboard via center fielder Jonny Tucker’s RBI double in the top of the eighth inning cutting the deficit to 7-1.

 

Matt Wright (1-0) earned the win tossing five innings of one hit, zero run baseball. Sean Bierman (0-1) sustained the loss lasting five innings while surrendering just two runs on four hits.
