School District Looking For Temporary Personnel Director

The school district is in search of a temporary personnel director.

The former director, Gail Reicheg, left earlier this month to accept a similar position in the Moorestown, Burlington County, school system.

Schools Superintendent Edward Seto said he already has a number of resumes from people interested in the job.

The Board of Education at its Dec. 19 meeting instructed Seto to find an interim director, rather than a permanent one.

The reasoning, said board members who supported the proposal, was they wanted to wait until Seto’s successor took over before filling the spot permanently.

Seto’s contract expires in June 2014; the board earlier this year voted to not offer him a renewal.

The personnel director’s job pays between $125,000 and $130,000, Seto said.

Earlier in the meeting, Seto asked the board for direction on whether he should find a permanent replacement for Reicheg “posthaste,” or an interim one.

“I’m looking for clarity as to how I should proceed,” he said.

Board member Keisha Smith-Carrington said that because the job is a “cabinet-level position” in Seto’s administration, she would repfer that “the position not be permanently filled at this time.”

Board vice-president Eva Nagy was more direct.

“There’s a lot of change happening in the district,” she said. “It’s not that easy to get a director of personnel. When people know there will be a change in the superintendent, they are reticent to apply.”

“We need to wait until we get a new superintendent,” she said.

Board member Robert Trautmann said the district should not “waste in opportunity” by not posting for the position now, but Seto told him that the position had been posted and he had already received resumes.

“I’m just reluctant to move forward with direction,” he said.

The board later voted to instruct Seto to look for an interim personnel director, with Trautmann casting the only “no” vote.
