RU Student Stumbles Into Street, Struck, Killed By Township Driver

NEW BRUNSWICK — A Rutgers University student was killed Sept. 28 after he stumbled into the street on George Street and was struck by a car driven by a township man, authorities said.

David Stewart, 36, of Somerset, was driving the 2011 Nissan Sentra that struck the student, 19-year-old Cory Aufiero of Colts Neck, according to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The accident happened near Albany and Somerset streets, according to the release.

Aufiero was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9:30 p.m., according to the release.

Stewart was cited for driving with a suspended license, according to the release.

An autopsy is pending with the Middlesex County Medical Examiner, the release said.
