Quail Brook Seniors Enjoy ‘Hee Haw Hoedown’

Seniors at the Quail Brook Senior Center “got their Western on” Aug. 26 at the center’s 4th annual Hee Haw Hoedown.

The day featured jumping chickens, a variety of dancing, rope tricks, horsehoe tossing, and eating, said Allyson Toth, the center’s manager.

“We ate cactus made out of cucumber and pickle,” she said. “And we’ll be having grilled hot dogs.”

There was also a lassoing competition, in which winners were given herbs to plant in their gardens.

And a raffle was held, the grand prize of which was a hand-made bird house.

Entertainment was provided by Richard Stillman, who played banjo, sang, did some square dance calling, juggled and showed the seniors how to “rope” a (saw) horse.

“He’ll be teaching us every little snippet of how to be Western,” Toth said.
