A Variety of Board & Card Games (Monopoly, Po-Ke-No, Yahtzee, Dominoes & Checkers) – Available Monday – Friday. If you have a favorite game not listed that you would like to play, and/or if you are interested in starting a club featuring the game of your choice, please inform the staff.

Indoor Shuffleboard – Monday – Friday.

Ping Pong – Monday – Friday. Ping-pong (table tennis) has only been an Olympic sport since 1988. Go ahead and take a shot at this fun game. Play either singles or doubles games. It’s a great way to improve hand/eye coordination, concentration and agility. **Call for availability.**
Individual Computer & PED (Personal Electronic Devices) Instruction with Mike Dias – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. **Call (732) 563-4213 to schedule an appointment. Check the monthly calendar for a schedule of updates.**

Healthy Bones Exercise Class with Joan Ackerman – Monday, 9:15 a.m. This is a peer-led, 24-week exercise and education program for individuals who either are at risk of having osteoporosis or have it. Exercises focus on improving balance, strength, flexibility, and posture. Advanced registration is required. A doctor’s note is also required prior to the first class and then once every year. **For new participants, the price is $45. This includes ankle weights, a participant’s manual and the class fee. QBC News – Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. Enjoy discussing global breaking news and current events in a stimulating Q&A session. Fellow center members will take turns researching and sharing the hot topics of the day.

The Regime Exercise Class – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 1 p.m. A head-to-toe workout that also uses intervals of weights, stretching and aerobic movements. Learn movements that lubricate joints for flexibility, strengthen and stabilize muscles, increase blood circulation – and by implementing a proper diet, you may lose weight! These exercises can help decrease the risk of falls and increase the ability to be better able to accomplish daily activities. This program can be practiced while either standing or sitting and with or without hand weights. Monday – Upper Body Routine, Tuesday – Mid Section Routine, Wednesday – Lower Body Routine, Friday – Total Routine **Wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing; sneakers are required.**

Continuing Art Institute with Karen Haake – Tuesday, 1 – 3 p.m. Salt Techniques for Art Module 1 – Learning the science of salt and its chemical reaction when it is mixed with paint. Module 2 – Salt application on wet, vibrant watercolors: Creating textures that are 3D. Module 3 – Watercolor painting snowflakes (created by the salt technique). Module 4 – Springtime representation – creating art with watercolors and salt effects. **$10.00 fee per class; includes supplies.**

Bridge, Cards & Board Games with the Quail Brook Seniors & Volunteers – Thursday & Friday, 10:30 a.m. This classic game of strategy is for players of all skill levels and is an ideal opportunity for people to meet new friends and have intellectual and social stimulation on a routine basis. Bridge is also a wonderful way to stimulate your brain. In addition to Bridge, join the group for other card playing competitions such as ‘Texas Hold ‘em’, Poker, Po-Ke-No, Scrabble, Monopoly, Dominoes and Checkers for group play and/or tournament participation. If you have a favorite game not listed that you would like to play, and/or if you are interested in starting a club featuring the game of your choice, please inform the staff.

Crochet & Knitting with Esther Fowlkes – Thursday & Friday, 10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. Learn the difference between the two methods of creating artistic patterns using fabric and yarn and a single hook or two needles. Which method do you think is easier? This class is for beginners, experts and those who wish to hone their skills. **Check the monthly calendar for a schedule of updates.**

Line Dancing – Friday, 9:30 a.m. Line Dancing is so much fun that it doesn’t even seem like exercise! You don’t need a partner and dancing is an easy way to stay healthy, both mentally and physically. It’s suitable for participants with limited mobility, and while working through different moves it may increase cardiovascular and muscular strength, and improve coordination and balance.

Table Tennis (Ping Pong) – Monday – Friday. This Olympic sport is a great way to maintain and improve hand-eye coordination, concentration and agility. Take a shot at being a tournament master by playing singles or doubles games.

Circuit Training – Thursday, 9:15 a.m. Have fun while performing cardiovascular exercises that raise your heart rate, tone your muscles in the upper and lower body and strengthen your core. Improve your balance, overall agility and increase your ability to perform daily activities. Sneakers are required. **Cost is $40 for the eight-week program; the next session begins March 14. March 1 – Tai Chi with Laurina Kuligowski, activities director, Regency Jewish Heritage Rehabilitation Center, 10:30 a.m. The practice of tai chi is based on shifting body weight through a series of light, controlled movements that flow rhythmically into one long gesture. Studies have shown that some participants have experienced a reduction in pain, fatigue and stiffness and have gained a greater sense of well-being. Regular tai chi can help reduce falls, especially for those who have balance problems. This program can be performed while either standing or sitting.

March 4 – “The Eyes of a Photographer: A Pictorial Cross Country Journey” by Brien Szabo, photographer, author, 10:30 a.m. Travel with a photographer via your imagination. Take cross-country trips, hike in the mountains, and see a few exotic locations as you stroll through cities.

March 5, 12, 19 & 26 – Body and Brain Yoga with Lucy Pagnetti, certified yoga instructor, 10:30 a.m. A mind-body practice combining the philosophy of physical, mental and spiritual health using stretching, flowing movements, deep breathing exercises and meditation. This is a simple and easy to learn format that focuses on developing the body’s core strength.

March 6, 13, 20 & 27 – Ageless Grace Fitness Program with Roz Gerken, certified ageless grace educator, 10:30 a.m. Ageless Grace is based on the cutting-edge science of neuroplasticity, which is the ability of the brain and central nervous system to change structurally and functionally. This program is designed to activate all five functions of the brain (i.e. strategic planning, memory and recall, analytical thinking, creativity and imagination and kinesthetic thinking). The program is intended for people of all abilities. Participants will be thoroughly engaged while seated in a chair.

March 7 – “The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution” with the Quail Brook seniors. March is the month to celebrate Women, their contributions and impact on society. Quail Brook will discuss, interpret and honor the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (passed by the U.S. Senate-1972) proposed in 1923 to provide legal equity regardless of gender.

March 7, 14, 21 & 28 – Zumba Gold with Laurie Fetcher, 10:30 a.m. With popular music designed to inspire a heart workout, Zumba Gold can be practiced by anyone age 60 and above, including beginners or others needing modifications to their exercise routine. Practicing Zumba Gold helps build cardiovascular health by challenging the heart and working the muscles of the hips, legs, and arms by using fun, energetic and rhythmic moves.

March 7, 14, 21 & 28 – Yoga with Dr. Prabha Srinivas, council for Yoga Accreditation International at the S-Vyasa University of Yogic Sciences, Bangalore India, 1 p.m. Take control of your emotional and physical well-being through the practice of yoga and meditation while reducing stress in your life. Please bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing that will allow for movement.

March 8 – Creative Card Creations with Rajul Shah, 10:30 a.m. Join us for a design and craft workshop that channels your creativity to help you make greeting cards.

March 11 – Irish Coffee Making, Luck of the Irish & Rainbow Fruit Skewers with Genesis Healthcare chef & dietitian, 10:30 a.m. Celebrate all things Irish with and learn how to make a flavorful and healthy traditional Irish coffee and snack skewers filled with fruit.

March 14 – “Focus of Fungi: Mushrooms & Their Health Benefits” by Daryl Minch, M.Ed., family & community health sciences educator, Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Did you know that mushrooms and other fungi affect every facet of human life? New research shows that mushrooms can be beneficial to your health. Learn how to cook with mushrooms and get tasty mushroom recipes!

March 15 – “Irish Culture & Tradition Through Dance” with Nikki Manx, 10:30 a.m. Get your jig on! Developed from French and English influence, solo Irish dance includes the most well-known form of Irish dance – performing steps, which are characterized by a rigid upper body and intricate footwork. Other forms of Irish dance include sean-nos dance – a relaxed and social dance style combining improvised steps, and festival Irish dance style. Please join us for a physical, fun and educational session when everyone is Irish for the day!

March 18 – “Mindful Eating: Your Relationship with Food” by Aliz Holzmann, RD, CSSD, CDE, ShopRite/Wakefern, 10:30 a.m. Learn about the health benefits of mindful eating, how to implement the practice mindful food consumption, and the key warning signs/triggers of non-mindful eating.

March 19 & 26 – “AARP Defensive Driving Seminar” with Lorraine Soltis, 1 – 4 p.m. This course is geared to drivers age 50 years and above. Learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. If you are 55 years and above, upon completion of the course, insurance companies may offer a discount for auto insurance, so check with your insurance company (you must attend both days in order to receive your certificate of completion). **Fee for the seminar is $15.00 for AARP members, $20.00 for non-AARP members.**

March 21 – Glenis Redmond, poet and artist-in-residence, State Theatre New Jersey. Glenis, an award-winning maverick of poetry, writing and inspiration, speaks the universal tongue of love, loss, celebration, sorrow and hope. Her verse exalts family, culture and community. March 22 – “Holi: A Hindu Spring Festival” with Rajul Shah, 10:30 a.m. Also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love, Holi signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, the end of winter, and is also a festive day to make new friends and forgive the transgressions of old ones. Reenact the tradition of throwing colored powder and savor some of the traditional tastes of Holi.

March 25 – “Health is Wealth: An Integrated Approach to Health” by Dana Cappa, M.S., L.A.C., acupuncturist, 10:30 a.m. This class examines health from a multi-prong perspective by using more than one discipline. Learn about trying alternative medicine with a health coach, nutritionist, massage therapist, acupuncturist, etc. This is an informative discussion about what types of alternative medicine are becoming more credible among healthcare professionals.

March 28 – “Physical Therapy, Balance & Strength” by Kathryn del Prado, PT, DPT, doctor of physical therapy, Trinity Rehab-Somerset. This class explores the aspects and physical integration of functional mobility along with the importance of increasing balance, strengthening your body and managing movement for a healthier and happier YOU!

March 29 – “Pritikin Cooking Demonstration” with Danielle Shargorodsky, RDN, Cardio Metabolic Institute of Somerset, 10:30 a.m. The Pritikin Eating Plan uses the latest scientific research and provides dietary guidelines that will help you avoid and often reverse diseases. Join us for a bite to eat while learning new healthy eating habits. You don’t have to be a gourmet cook to create easy, simple and mouth-watering recipes.
