Police Log: Oct. 4 – Oct. 5, 2013

Jerry DeSarno of North Brunswick was cited Oct. 4 for failure to yield to oncoming traffic after his car was involved in an accident on Veronica Avenue with one driven by Myra Marante of Somerset. Marante said she was traveling down Veronica when DeSarno’s car turned in front of hers.

Ibrahim Bangura of Somerset told police Oct. 4 that he was trying to park his car in the lot at 2 John F. Kennedy Boulevard when it struck a parked car. Police noted the parked car was taking up two spots.

§

Cars driven by Ynes Lopez and Dorian Summers, both of New Brunswick, collided Oct. 4 when Lopez’ car turned left from the Stop N’ Shop parking lot onto Veronica Avenue. Lopez told police that traffic stopped for her to turn when Summers’ car hit hers. Summers said Lopez made a turn right in front of his car.

Errol Brown of Somerset told police Oct. 4 that his car was stopped for traffic on Hamilton Street, near Norma Avenue, when it was side-swiped on the right by a car driven by Michele Marotto of Manville. Marotto said she was passing Brown’s car on the right when his car turned into hers.

Michelle Bigata of Matawan told police Oct. 4 that she was driving down New Brunswick Road when a deer ran across the street and hit her car.

Dikier Fuqua of Somerset was cited Oct. 5 for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident after a care he was driving was involved in an accident with one driven by Ninkunj Vaidhya, also of Somerset. Fuqua told police that he hit Vaidhya’s car, then drove off because he was nervous and did not know what to do.

A Laurel Avenue resident told police Oct. 5 that someone stole his Brinkman Smoke ‘n Grill grill, which was at the end of his driveway. The man told police he put the grill there because he’d just had his driveway graveled, and wanted to dissuade people from parking there. The man told police that the grill was missing a handle, and someone could have mistaken it for garbage. A neighbor told police she saw someone driving a black contractor’s van take the grill.

Miguel Amador of New Brunswick was cited Oct. 5 for careless driving and driving without a license after a trailer his car was towing struck a car driven on Cedar Grove Lane by Ann Promise of Monmouth Junction. Promise told police that she was turning onto Amwell Road when the trailer, which was also turning left in the outside lane, hit her car.

Maria Chiaffarano of Phillips Road told police Oct. 5 that someone flattened all four tires on her Toyota Avalon. The car was parked in her building’s lot at the time, police said.

Joseph Liotto of North Brunswick was driving down Bennetts Lane Oct. 5 when a deer ran across the road. Liotto said he could not avoid hitting the animal.

Lakshmi Selvanayagam of West Windsor told police Oct. 5 that she was driving down Somerset Street when her car hit the rear of the car ahead of it. Police said the two drivers continued onto Quentin Avenue, where, after a short discussion, the other driver left. The other driver was described as an Hispanic male driving a white pickup.

Candida Lujan-Medina of New Brunswick was backing her car up on Jefferson Street Oct. 5 when it struck a parked car owned by Tracy Daughtry of Lithonia, Georgia police said.
