Police Log: Dec. 27, 2016 – Jan. 4, 2017

Dec. 27

  • Mohammad Emad of Somerset was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle after he was involved in a collision at Easton Avenue and John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Emad said he was traveling through the intersection when his car collided with one driven by Carol Parker of Somerset. Parker said she had the green light.
  • Jeffrey Wells of Plainsboro was cited for careless driving and failure to keep right after he was involved in a multi-car collision on South Middlebush Road. A car driven by Sheetal Modi of Bound Brook was driving down South Middlebush when it was rear-ended by Wells’ car. Wells’ car then crossed into the oncoming traffic and struck head-on a car driven by Kimberly Fink of Plainsboro. Wells’ car then ran into a ditch; Fink’s car spun off the road. Wells said he wasn’t sure his brakes worked.
  • John Hauch of South Bound Brook was trying to cross Cedar Grove Lane on his bicycle when he was struck by a car which then fled the scene. Hauch was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
  • Ahmad Grandison of Franklin Park was cited for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exhibit documents and failure to report an accident after the car he was driving struck one driven by Juan Peralta-Rodriguez of New Brunswick. Peralta-Rodriguez said he was pulling out of a Hamilton Street gas station when his car was hit by Grandison’s, which was pulling in. Grandison then fled the scene, Peralta-Rodriguez said.
  • Thomas Tojo of North Brunswick was backing his car in a Route 27 parking lot when it struck a parked car owned by Pradipkun Desai of Hillsborough. Tojo was cited for careless driving.
  • Akuezumkpa Ezeh of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car collided on Route 27 with one driven by Paulino Ngai of Pennsylvania. Ezeh said traffic stopped for her to make a turn, and Ngai’s car went around the stopped traffic and the two collided. Ngai said he did not have time to stop.

Dec. 28

  • Amishi Desai of Kendall Park was cited for failure to observe signs after she was involved in a multi-car accident at South Middlebush Road and Route 27. Desai was turning left onto Rt. 27 when her car was struck by one on Rt. 27, driven by Marisol Rojas-Garcia of North Brunswick. Desai’s car was then propelled across Rt. 27, where it struck a car driven by Lawrence Szur of Skillman.

Dec. 29

  • $13 worth of Denny’s gift cards were stolen from a 2015 Chrysler 200 parked on Codington Aenue.
  • Someone walked out of K-Mart on Easton Avenue without paying for $100 worth of cologne.
  • Karen Caballero-Reyes of North Brunswick was arrested on an active warrant during a motor vehicle stop at Route 27 and Veronica Avenue.
  • Bergie Anderson of Princeton was cited for careless driving after the car he was driving on Amwell Road turned in front of a car driven by Lori Worley of Somerset and the two collided.
  • Michael Bennett of Cranberry was cited for careless driving and failure to maintain his lane after he was involved in a multi-car accident on Hamilton Street. Bennett told police that he was driving down Hamilton when he looked away from the street to pick something up, and his car swerved into a parked car owned by Jesus Fuentes of Maryland. The impact pushed Fuentes’ car into one parked in front of it, owned by Francis Carnona of Somerset. Fuentes’ car then hit one being driven by Ibrahim Jalloh of Sayreville.
  • Nicole Galasso of Somerset was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle after her car rear-ended one on John F. Kennedy Boulevard driven by Hannah Ungerleider, also of Somerset. Ungerleider said a car in front of hers made a sudden turn, and she had to stop suddenly, after which she was hit.

Dec. 30

  • The tires were stolen from a 2017 Honda Accord while it was parked on Worlds Fair Drive.
  • The tailgate from a Ford F-250 pickup truck was stolen while it was parked on Worlds Fair Drive. The tailgate was valued at $1,500.
  • A white box enclosed trailer containing items valued at more than $7,000 was stolen from where it was parked at Vanderbilt Avenue and Hamilton Street. Inside the trailer, valued at $8,000, was a Kawasaki motorcycle valued at $3,000, a Bobcat lawnmower valued at $2,500, two backpack leaf blowers valued at $800, two weed whackers valued at $600 and a Toro lawnmower valued at $250.
  • A wallet valued at $10 was reported stolen from Douglas Avenue.
  • $40 in cash was stolen from someone while they were at the self-checkout register in an Easton Avenue store.
  • Cassandra Jordan, 27, of Somerset was arrested on warrants during a motor vehicle stop on Millstone Road.

Dec. 31

  • Blue and red BMX style bikes, valued at $400 each, were stolen from the front yard of a Sydney Place home.
  • Someone threw a rock through the front storm door glass of a Winchester Way home.
  • Jewelry valued at $2,000 was stolen from a Cortelyous Lane home. The burglar forced entry through the home’s front door, causing $3,000 in damage.
  • Someone apparently tossed a lit cigarette into a patch of mulch near a John F. Kennedy Boulevard building, causing it to smolder and smoke. Police said the mulch was doused with water by the East Franklin Fire Department.
  • A purse valued at $50 and $150 in cash, along with personal papers, was stolen from the counter of Kennedy Fried Chicken on Hamilton Street. The victim told police that she put her purse on the counter, then left the store, forgetting it was there. When she returned, the purse was gone.
  • A car driven on Easton Avenue by Beth Rosenbrock of Jersey City was rear-ended by one driven by Francisco Huertes of North Brunswick as it was slowing down.
  • Arturo Rivera of North Brunswick was driving down Veronica Avenue when, he said, an animal ran in front of his car. Rivera said he swerved to miss the animal, but his car hit a curb. Police said there was no evidence to support his claim, so he was cited for careless driving.

Jan. 1

  • Radhika Truffa of Chester was charged with driving while intoxicated during a motor vehicle stop on Cedar Grove Lane.
  • A Philips Road resident reported that $140 in cash, cigars valued at $8 and a spare key to a Mini Cooper car were stolen from her home. The woman told police she had returned to her home a few days earlier to find the front door open, but nothing stolen.
  • Aliyyah Shabazz, 19, of Somerset, was charged with theft after she was allegedly see putting $180 up her sleeve while working as a cashier at the Stop and Shop on Easton Avenue.

Jan. 3

  • Someone stole a 2016 Nissan Altima while it was parked, unlocked, with the keys inside, on Hamilton Street.
  • A bottle of cologne valued at $120 was stolen from a car parked on Crabapple Lane.
  • Someone ransacked a 2014 Hyundai Elantra and a 2013 Honda Accord while they were parked on Village Drive.

Jan. 4

  • Juan Parraveras, 29, of Somerset, was arrested on Easton Avenue on a warrant out of Edison.
  • Jewelry and several laptop computers were stolen from a Holland Drive home.
  • Marisa Salerno, 26, of Somerset was arrested on an outstanding warrant. She was later released on $500 bail.
