Police Log: Aug. 1 – 9, 2017

Aug. 1

  • The hood on a car parked on Reeve Street was damaged.
  • Cars driven by Myra Chanez and Monica Jackson, both of Somerset, collided on Hamilton Street. Chanez said she was turning left into a driveway when Jackson’s car passed her on the left and the two collided. Jackson said Chanez pulled out of a parking space on Hamilton in front of her, and that she crossed into the oncoming traffic lane in an attempt to avoid a collision.
  • Paul Fletcher of Somerset was cited for tailgating after his car rear-ended one on Churchill Avenue driven by Samuel Paredes, also of Somerset.
  • Chen Chang of New Brunswick was cited for failure to yield and driving with an expired insurance card after his car collided with one driven by Deborah Vilawys, also of New Brunswick. Vilawys said she was exiting Route 287 onto Easton Avenue when Change disregarded the yield sign on Easton and struck her car.

Aug. 2

  • Jahwil Thomas, 23, of Somerset was arrested on an outstanding warrant from New Brunswick after he was stopped at Van Dyke Avenue and Somerset Street on motor vehicle violations.
  • Mary Bey, 34, of Somerset was arrested on an outstanding warrant on DeMott Lane. She was released on $400 bail.
  • Terrance Noble, 21, and Cleon Jackson, 23, both of Somerset, were charged with possession of marijuana during a field interview at Castleton Avenue and Simpson Road.
  • Kevin Miller, 31, of North Brunswick, was arrested at the Middlesex County Jail on an active township warrant.
  • Ronald Myers, 21, of North Brunswick was arrested at the Rutgers University Police Department on an outstanding township warrant.
  • Alex John of Somerset was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one on New Brunswick Road, driven by Aaliyah Hernandez of Franklin. Hernandez said she was waiting to turn into a park parking lot when her car was hit.

Aug. 3

  • Two Mongoose bicycles – one black and orange and the other black and teal – were stolen from the porch of an Easton Avenue home. The bikes were valued at $230.
  • $1,000 in cash was stolen from an unlocked truck on Miller Farm Road.
  • Edward Gore of Somerset was cited for driving without insurance after his car collided on Route 27 with one driven by Bryan Dominguez of Monmouth Junction. Gore said he had to recollection of the accident; Dominguez said Gore’s car turned left in front of his.
  • Bethany Andrade of Princeton was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended one driven on Laurel Avenue by Susan Sahlin of Whitehouse Station. The impact pushed Sahlin’s car into the rear of one driven by Janis Hottinger of Princeton, which in turn was pushed into the rear of one driven by Andrea Welker of Hillsborough.
  • Hungkyu Chun of West Windsor was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one on Schoolhouse Road driven by Veronica Delmonte of Somerset.

Aug. 4

  • A woman told police that someone stole the orthotics from her shoes while she was praying at an Amwell Road temple.
  • Someone stole a Moto Z cell phone, valued at $800, from a location on Leupp Lane.
  • Gargi Shroff of Kendall Park was cited for careless driving after her car backed into one in a Route 27 parking lot, driven by Tina Ezzo, also of Kendall Park.

Aug. 5

  • A black leather wallet containing personal papers was stolen from a car parked on Oak Place.
  • Someone entered a bus through its unlocked rear door, took the fire extinguisher and sprayed it inside the vehicle. The bus was parked on Matilda Avenue.
  • A blue BMX bicycle valued at $200 was stolen from the front lawn of a Girard Avenue home.
  • Gibirill Koroma of Brookhaven was cited for careless driving and driving without insurance after his car collided with one driven on Hamilton Street by Dayana Toledo-Mendoza of Somerset. Toledo-Mendoza said she was driving through the Pershing Avenue intersection when Koroma turned onto Hamilton and into her car.

Aug. 6

  • Someone smashed the windshield of a car parked in front of a Topaz Drive home.
  • Sean Sampson, 26, of Somerset was arrested in a Barron Circle home on an outstanding warrant from Newark.
  • David Lin of Hillsborough was cited for careless driving after his car drifted across Clyde Road, hit the curb, a tree and a utility pole. Lin told police his eyes got blurry.
  • Antonio Cortese of Morris Plains was cited for improper passing after police said his car crossed the double-yellow line on Route 27 to pass stopped traffic and struck a car driven by Julia Hanna of North Brunswick.

Aug. 7

  • Someone stole a wallet containing $50 from a car parked on Easton Avenue.
  • Devin Godfrey-Phipps, 41, was arrested on an outstanding warrant on Castleton Avenue.

Aug. 8

  • Someone stole a package left on the stoop of a Juniper Court home, sometime between July 31 and Aug. 8.
  • Iman Wade, 23, of Atlantic City was arrested at the Atlantic City jail on an outstanding township warrant.
  • Jason Berkey, 45, of Trenton was arrested in the Middlesex County Jail on an outstanding township warrant.

Aug. 9

  • A 2002 Toyota truck, valued at $6,000, was stolen while it was parked on Frank Street.
