Police: Dec. 8 Snow Causes 17 Traffic Accidents

The wintry weather of Dec. 8 caused 17 traffic accidents in the township, according to township police spokesman Sgt. Phil Rizzo. Here’s a sampling:

Shirley Thomas of Somerset told police that she was driving on Veronica Avenue when she lost control of her car on the slippery road and hit a tree. Police said Thomas was driving too fast for the road conditions.

Shirin Pillai of West Windsor was cited for careless driving after her car struck the curb median on Franklin Boulevard, near Easton Avenue. After jumping the curb, police said, Pillai’s car knocked down a sign, then continued across Easton Avenue before stopping.

Pillai told police that she lost control on the slippery road because her brakes locked up.

A five-car crash at Easton Avenue and DeMott Lane occurred when a car driven by Scarlett Blanco of South Bound Brook suddenly spun out of control while she was driving on Easton. Blanco’s car then struck one driven by Richard Ball of North Brunswick.

After hitting Ball’s car, Blanco’s bounced into cars driven by Andrew Casazza and Julio Perez-Arrieta, both of Somerset, police said.

The impact forced Casazza’s car off the road and into a light pole at the intersection, police said. The light pole was then propelled into a car driven by Josephine Khater of Somerset.

Police said Blanco was driving too fast for the road conditions.

A car driven by Hector Rodriguez of Somerset was struck in the rear by one driven by James Fries of Macungie, Pa., while Rodriguez’ car was stopped for the traffic light at Cedar Grove Lane and Amwell Road. Fries told police that he slid on the snowy road, but police said he was driving too close to the other car.

Nicholas Gonzalez of Hillsborough was traveling down Weston Canal Road when, he told police, he lost control of his car, sideswiping an auto driven by Youhannes Roberts of Piscataway. Police said Gonzalez was traveling too fast for the road conditions.

Tara Broyles of North Brunswick told police that she as trying to navigate a bend in Clyde Road when her car hit an ice patch, causing her to lose control and slide into the guard rail.

Craig Miller of South River told police that he had just turned from Easton Avenue to Culver Street when his car slid into the curb and struck a stop sign.

A car driven by Jonathan Conant of High Bridge was stopped for a red light at Franklin Boulevard and Easton Avenue when it was rear-ended by a car driven by Elizabeth Kuhn of Somerset. Kuhn said she tried to stop, but her car slid into Conant’s. Police said Kuhn was following too closely.

Police said that Gisela Perez-Luciano of Flemington was driving too closely behind a car driven by Partha Dutta of Somerset when Dutta was turning from Easton Avenue into the Harrison Towers parking lot. Perez-Luciano said she tried to top, but her car slid on ice into Dutta’s.
