Planners Hear Proposal For Retail, Residential Project On Hamilton Street

Township planners on March 2 got their first look at a proposal to build a mixed use building on Hamilton Street and three single family homes behind it.

The Planning Board did not vote to approve the application, presented by 745 Hamilton Street LLC, because no information was given about storm water management. That is expected at the board’s first May meeting, when the application’s hearing will resume.

The proposal is to build a 3-story “L” shaped building at the corner of Hamilton Street and DeWald Avenue. The first floor fronting Hamilton and part of DeWald would be retail, while the remainder of the first floor along DeWald and the second and third floors would hold a total of 30 1- and 2-bedroom apartments.

The 1-bedroom apartments would each be about 864 square feet, while the 2-bedroom apartments would each be about 981 square feet. Every apartment would have its own balcony, he said.

The retail space would take up about 6,000 square feet, the project’s architect, Curt Ludwig, told the board.

Behind the retail/apartment building, the applicant would extend Martin Street and build three single family homes, Ludwig said.

Entrances to the building’s parking lot would be from Hamilton and Martin streets.

There would be 60 parking spots on site, with more provided by the renovation of DeWald Avenue, said Ronald Sadowski, the applicant’s engineer.

The board will hear testimony on the proposal’s waste water plan at its May 4 meeting, when it is expected to take a vote on the proposal.
