Patriots Top Ducks 6-4

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 6-4 before 7,283 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. The attendance helped the team set a new Atlantic League weekend record of 24,344 fans over the course of the three days.

The Ducks got on the board early with a Brendan Harris RBI single in the first to make the score 1-0.

The Patriots answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Corey Smith hit an RBI double scoring Aharon Eggleston and Adam Donachie to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.

Donachie hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to put Somerset up 3-1.

Lew Ford hit a home run (11) in the third for Long Island to cut the lead to 3-2.

Donachie’s two run home run (2) in the bottom of the fourth gave the Patriots a 5-2 advantage.

Damaso Espino scored in the bottom of the sixth on a Donachie sac fly to center for a 6-2 Patriots lead.

The Ducks chipped into the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Fehlandt Lentini that made the score 6-3.

In the top of the ninth Randy Ruiz hit a sac fly scoring Jon Myers for the 6-4 final.

Patriots starter Matt Zielinski (5-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits in seven innings pitched. Ducks starter Casey Barnes (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing five runs-four earned-on ten hits in four innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his 13^th save of the season.
