Patriots Top Bluefish 7-3

519newsBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (16-7) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (13-10) 7-3 Tuesday evening from TD Bank Ballpark. Somerset has won eight of its last nine games.

 

In the top of the second inning first baseman John Alonso scored via a passed ball by catcher Adam Donachie as Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead.

 

Designated hitter Thomas Neal cranked a three run home run (2) in the bottom of the third inning to give Somerset a 3-1 advantage.

 

The Patriots plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 6-1. Third baseman Greg Hopkins blooped a two RBI single while center fielder Jonny Tucker slapped a RBI single.

 

The Bluefish countered with two runs in the ensuing half inning as third baseman Jovan Rosa socked a RBI single and another run crossed via a ground ball double play off the bat of second baseman Luis Rodriguez making the score 6-3.

 

Left fielder Aharon Eggleston poked a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to up the Somerset lead to 7-3.

 

Matt Zielinski earned the win (1-0) tossing six strong innings while surrendering two earned runs on just two hits. Scott Maine suffered the loss (1-2) hurling five innings while allowing six earned runs.

 

The 2015 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow when the Patriots remain at TD Bank Ballpark for a day-night doubleheader against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
