Patriots Shut Out Bees 5-0

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (31-23) defeated the New Britain Bees (28-28) 5-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.

The Patriots jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Julio Borbon led off with a home run (5) to right field, recently signed infielder Jermaine Curtis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and back-to-back RBI base hits by Craig Massey and Mike Fransoso gave the Patriots a 4-0 advantage.

Somerset added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Kyle Roller to make the score 5-0.

Kyle Davies (1-3) picked up the win, allowing six hits while striking out four batters in six scoreless innings pitched.

“People always tell you that you have to stay low and stay back, but until you feel it, it’s not going to happen,” said Davies. “I started to feel it better and I think that got me through the fourth through the sixth much better than the first three innings.”

Rainy Lara (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs – one earned- on six hits in five innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday, June 28th with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Morristown Medical Center. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
