Patriots Rally Past Barnstormers 8-5

june25FINALLancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (44-16) rallied to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers (25-35) 8-5 Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium to complete the three game midweek series sweep. The Patriots have now won a season-high nine games in a row. Somerset exploded for six runs in the ninth inning to win for the 14th time in its final at bat.

 

In the bottom of the second inning designated hitter Wilson Batista hammered a home run (1) to give Lancaster a 1-0 advantage.

 

Center fielder Jonny Tucker laced a two RBI triple to give Somerset a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning.

 

First baseman Brian Cavazos-Galvez clubbed a home run (7) to even the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

Lancaster plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab a 4-2 lead. Right fielder Brandon Jones and catcher Juan Apodaca each poked RBI singles.

 

Jones smacked another RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to increase the Barnstormers lead to 5-2.

 

Somerset rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the ninth inning to grab a 8-5 lead which would be the final. Shortstop Robert Andino clubbed a RBI double while Adam Donachie tied the game via a pinch hit two run home run (3). First baseman David Vidal recorded a go ahead RBI sacrifice fly while pinch hitter Thomas Neal socked a two RBI double for insurance purposes.

 

Daniel Sattler earned the win (4-1) in relief. Zach Jackson blew the save and sustained the loss (2-3). Jon Hunton notched the save (15) pitching the final frame.
