Patriots Power Past Blue Crabs 7-2

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (30-22) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (22-31) 7-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run home run by Mike Fransoso (2).

Somerset added to the lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez that made the score 3-0.

Cory Vaughn hit a two-run home run (9) in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-2.

Julio Borbon powered Somerset to a 5-2 lead with a two-run blast (4) in the bottom of the fifth inning.

“I went back to the approach of just looking for something that I could drive middle-in and I was able to get that pitch and drive it out of the park,” said Borbon, who also finished with two runs scored in the game.

Kyle Roller’s opposite field home run (4) in the bottom of the eighth inning, along with an Adam Weisenburger RBI single, gave the Patriots the 7-2 final score.

Rick Teasley (3-2) picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits and seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Paul Clemens (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and ten strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Tuesday, June 26th with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game includes Bark In The Park Night. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
