Patriots Open Second Half Of Season With 5-1 Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (1-0, 36-28) defeated the Road Warriors (0-1, 17-47) 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening to open up the second half of the season.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Jermaine Curtis.

Craig Massey’s two-run home run (1) in the bottom of the fifth inning put Somerset up 3-0.

“It was a situation with [Justin Pacchioli] on third with less than two outs. I was trying to lift something to the outfield,” said Massey. “I was expecting something soft and away in that moment and he left it right over and I got it up.”

The Patriots extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Mike Fransoso and an RBI single by Pacchioli that made the score 5-0.

The Road Warriors got their lone run on an RBI single by Alfredo Silverio in the top of the seventh inning.

Duane Below (5-2) picked up the win, allowing a run on six hits and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Michael Lee (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, July 7th with a 7:05 pm game against the Road Warriors. The game features a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Elements Massage of Chester. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
