Patriots’ Nate Spears Signed By Phillies
Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced that infielder Nate Spears has been signed by the Philadelphia Phillies organization and will report to Triple-A.
Spears was among the team’s best hitters, leading the Patriots in RBI with 21 and had four home runs in 37 games played this season before having his contract purchased by the Phillies organization.
Spears has Major League experience with the Boston Red Sox in 2011 and 2012, where he played in seven games.
In addition to his Major League time, Spears has five seasons of Triple-A experience, including 68 games last season for the Cleveland Indians organization. He has also played for the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs organizations.
He has a minor league career .266 batting average, 1,060 hits, 202 doubles, 49 triples, 73 home runs, and 457 RBI in 1,175 games.
Spears is the sixth member of the Somerset Patriots to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization this season joining Dennis Raben (Angels), Zach Kroenke (Nationals), Matt Maloney (Reds), Brett Brach (Nationals), and Kyler Newby (Angels).
