Patriots Late Rally Wins It Again

61314gamerecapBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 6-5 win against the Lancaster Barnstormers before 6,849 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

 

Trailing 5-3 in the eighth, Ty Wright hit an RBI single, putting the Patriots behind by a run. Adam Donachie then hit a two run single to put the Patriots in front 6-5.

 

The Patriots started out strong with a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Aharon Eggleston scored on a single by Corey Smith putting the Patriots on the board 1-0. Wright’s two run single to left brought in Smith and Mike Wilson to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead.

 

Lancaster tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth. Brock Kjeldgaard hit an RBI triple that brought in Cole Garner. Wilson Batista followed with a single that scored Brock Kjeldgaard and later came home on a single by Casey Frawley.

 

Batista put Lancaster in the lead with a home run (3) off starter Matt Langwell in the top of the sixth.

 

Ben Francisco hit a home run (1) in the top of the seventh that gave the Barnstormers a 5-3 advantage.

 

Daniel Herrera (1-0) picked up the win, giving up a run in two innings pitched. Cory Wade (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his 12th save of the season.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday afternoon with a double header. The first game will begin at 12:00 pm followed by a 7:05pm game against the Long Island Ducks. There will be a special Sparky Lyle number retirement ceremony before the 7:05 pm game.
