Patriots Clobber Camden 14-2

8514gamerecapBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (17-10, 64-33) crushed the Camden Riversharks (11-15, 34-62) 14-2 Tuesday evening in the series opener from TD Bank Ballpark.

 

In the top of the first inning third baseman Bryan Pounds socked a RBI sacrifice fly to give Camden an early 1-0 advantage.

 

The Patriots grabbed a 2-1 lead in the ensuing half inning as a run scored on an errant throw from Pounds while another run crossed home via a double play ball hit by right fielder Luis Montanez.

 

Somerset scored three more times in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Designated hitter Daryle Ward cranked a two RBI double while Montanez hit a RBI sacrifice fly.

 

Four additional runs scored in the fourth frame as Somerset took a 9-1 advantage. Third baseman Corey Smith, second baseman Jeff Dominguez and right fielder Ty Wright each tallied RBI singles why center fielder Jonny Tucker sprayed a RBI double.

 

Right fielder Ryan Strieby blasted a home run (5) in the top of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 9-2.

 

Dominguez ripped a RBI single, Smith crushed a homer (11) and first baseman Brian Barden hammered a three run home run (4) to make the score 14-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

 

David Harden (1-0) earned the win tossing five innings while allowing just one run on three hits. Pedro Liriano (0-7) endured the loss lasting three innings while allowing five runs on seven hits. Derell McCall earned the four inning save (1).
