Patriots Blank Bees 7-0

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (26-18) defeated the New Britain Bees (20-25) 7-0 before a season-high 7,598 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

Somerset broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when Justin Pacchioli scored from second base on a deep sacrifice fly by Julio Borbon.

The Patriots extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on two-run doubles by Yovan Gonzalez and Borbon that made the score 5-0.

Somerset added two more runs to the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Rodriguez and an RBI single by Justin Trapp for the 7-0 final.

Trevor Foss (2-3) picked up the win, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings pitched.

“The fastball command was a big improvement for me over previous outings,” said Foss. “When you can command the fastball in and out, up and down, it makes them respect it and makes other pitches that maybe you miss with more effective.”

Andy Van Hekken (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees on Saturday, June 16th. The game features a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Roselle Catholic High School. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
