In Your Opinion: A Fact-Check On Siegel And Endorsement For Galtieri

By Deana Luchs, Somerset.

As a Ward 2 resident, I researched Scott Siegel’s website and found several comments which are erroneous. I fact-checked my responses from reputable sources.

In one of his statements, Mr. Siegel claims that “from 2011 to 2016 only 3 of the 22 governmental units in Somerset County have raised taxes higher than Franklin Township. Statewide, towns that have recent financials online we rank in the bottom 23 percent over the same time period.”

In fact, Mr. Siegel interestingly omits 2017 from his statement when Franklin Township had a zero percent increase in municipal tax and in 2016 only a 1.75 percent increase.

He also doesn’t recognize that in 2010 Franklin Township was projected to run out of money by 2012.  According to his website he failed as a bond seller “due to one bad year.”  Unfortunately, the Township is not able to give up as he did.

The Township budget from 2010 until the present has remained under the 2009 budget despite 15% inflation (CPI) since then. We now have a solvent town with a recent record of low tax increases.

I urge you to vote for Democrat Will Galtieri for Ward 2 Council. He is well informed on the facts. He has experience as a Franklin Township Sewage Department Commissioner and has been involved in Franklin Township politics for quite some time. He has also been a lifelong resident of Franklin Township and would be a welcome addition to the Town Council representing Ward 2.
