Middle School Teacher Charged With Possession Of Heroin; Sweep Finds No Drugs In Classroom

A Franklin Middle School teacher has been arrested on narcotics charges.

A Franklin Middle School teacher has been arrested on charges of possession  and distribution of heroin, according to court records.

The Franklin Reporter & Advocate is not naming the teacher because the arrest has not yet been publicly announced. Details of the arrest are included in Superior Court records reviewed by the FR&A.

The teacher was arrested last month, outside of Somerset County, according to the court records.

The teacher faces multiple counts, according to court records.

Franklin Township Police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said that on Feb. 6, a K-9 sweep of the teacher’s classroom did not turn up any drugs.

“The Franklin Township Board of Education requested a K9 sweep of the room as part of their safety protocol,” Rizzo said in an email. “The Franklin Township Police Department’s only involvement was that officers stood by while the K9 from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department conducted the sweep.”
