MaryAnn Schumacher, Teacher, 40-Year Township Resident

mary-ann-schumacherMaryAnn Schumacher passed away Nov. 21 at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 72 years old.

Born in Jersey City to Adam and Jennie Lawdanski, she’d been a Somerset resident for over 40 years. She graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, and later received her Masters from Kean University.

A teacher for more than 35 years, Mrs. Schumacher taught English as a Second Language in Middlesex for the last 29 years before retiring in 2009.

She was a member of the National, New Jersey, and Middlesex Education Associations, as well as TESOL, an ESL advocacy society. MaryAnn cherished time spent with her family, especially summers at Sunset Beach in Cape May.

Predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Adam and Joseph Lawdanski, MaryAnn is survived by her children: Hans Schumacher Jr. and his fiancée Kelly, Karl Schumacher and wife Kristina, Eric Schumacher and wife Leeanna, and Dorianne Toro and her husband Steve; by her grandchildren Dylan, Bryana, Travis, Hailey, Zoey, Alexis, Shaylynn, Damian, Jonathan, Connor, Aiden, Bodyn, and Jenna; by her sister, Agnes Day and niece and nephew Cynthia and Edward Day Jr., and by her beloved dog, Sparky.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthias R.C. Church on JFK Blvd in Somerset. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
