Life Story: Thomas Egan, 84; Served In Army As Military Policeman

Mr. Thomas Egan passed away on May 12 at the Regency Heritage Care Center in Somerset. He was 84 years old.

Tom was born in Newark but grew up in Bloomfield. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT). He served our country faithfully in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. He and his wife Nancy raised their family in Clifton and Mr. Egan retired from Hoffman LaRoche as a Chemical Engineer after thirty years of service to the company. In 2015 he relocated to the Somerset area.

He was an avid boater and fisherman along the Jersey coast.

He was pre-deceased by his brother John J. Egan and a grandson Colin P. Murphy.

Mr. Egan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Egan of Somerset; son Thomas J. Egan and his wife Joanne of Verona, daughter Kathleen Murphy and her husband Ed of Somerset and grandchildren Morgan Murphy, Jared Egan, Kaitlin Egan and Melanie Egan.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. May 19 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St. in Somerset, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.

Visiting will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. May 18 at the Gleason Funeral Home.
