Life Story: Salvatore F. Lopes, 74; Doo-Wop, Oldies Music Fan

Mr. Salvatore F. Lopes passed away peacefully on January 15. He was 74 years old.

Mr. Lopes was born and raised by his mother Eleanor in Manhattan. He began his career at the NYSE where he met his wife Elizabeth. They married in 1969 and upon starting a family, moved to Fords. In the mid 80’s Sal and his family moved to North Edison. In 2014, Sal and his wife moved to Somerset.

In 1972, he began his career as a Compliance Officer at Neuberger Berman. Mr Lopes would go on to spend his entire career here and retire in 2004 after 32 years. He was a doo-wop and oldies music fan and would frequent the shooting range with his buddies. He also loved photography and in his later years enjoyed hiking and yoga.

Mr. Lopes was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Lopes in 2015.

He is survived by his son Sal Lopes and his husband Brandon Moyer of Cornwall Bridge Connecticut and daughter Dianne Renda and her husband Nick of Franklin Park NJ. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Nicholas, 19, at Penn State University and Danielle Renda 16, who is in high school.
He is also survived by his “Bro” Joseph Lopes and his wife Marilyn as well as his nephew Joseph Lopes of Cranford.

The family will greet friends and relatives from noon -3 p.m. January 19 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset, where a prayer service will begin at 3 p.m.
